Marcellus HS students named finalists in photo contest

Four Marcellus High School students were among the 23 finalists selected in the sixth annual photography contest sponsored by Syracuse law firm Bousquet Holstein: 12th graders Rachel Ceparski and Megan Haney, Ashley Seymour (11th grade) and Abbey Vetsch (10th grade).
More than 217 images were submitted by students in Syracuse and Onondaga County schools. Judges included representatives of the Everson Museum of Art, as well as members and staff of the law firm. Finalists and winners were announced and presented with certificates and awards at an Oct. 16 reception at the Everson.
The theme for this year’s contest was inspired by the provocative multi-media works of Fernando Orellana currently on exhibit at the museum, according to the law firm’s websiteStudents were “challenged to discover and capture subject matters that were “Playful in Nature,” and encouraged to use composition, color, texture and shape to depict their subject. Each year, Bousquet Holstein features the winning image on its annual Thanksgiving card with a short biography about the student photographer. The winning image this year was created by a student from East Syracuse Minoa High School.

Clockwise from top left: "Water balloon being popped" by Abbey Vetsch; "Girl blowing bubbles," by Rachel Ceparski; "Boy holding chalk balloons," by Megan Haney; and "A person 'emerging' from the driveway," by Ashley Seymour.
