District awarded for school safety excellence

For the sixth consecutive year, Marcellus Central School District has received a “School Safety Excellence Award” from the Utica National Insurance Group.

Marcellus was one of 131 school districts and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services in the state to receive a 2015 award from Utica National officials, during the group’s 35th annual school safety seminar at the Syracuse Doubletree hotel in East Syracuse.

Marcellus once again achieved the “Titanium level with honors,” which is the highest award level given in recognition of a district’s safety efforts and includes a $500 cash prize. The award program has three levels (titanium, platinum, and gold) in which schools can earn a meritorious distinction.

“I’m delighted to once again accept this honor on behalf of our Marcellus teachers, staff, school resources officers and building administrators for their outstanding safety efforts,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig J. Tice said.

Utica insures more than 300 school districts in upstate New York for property and liability insurance and is one of the leading companies in the field.

“Safety and health concerns continue to be a priority in our school districts,” said Mark Aquino, Utica National’s regional manager for risk management. “Districts that go ‘above and beyond’ to provide a safe, healthy and focused culture for learning are to be applauded, and we’re pleased to count Marcellus Central School District among them.”
