While students enjoyed a day off from school on Election Day, Marcellus teachers and administrators dug into a jam-packed agenda of learning during Tuesday’s professional development day at Marcellus.
The day’s events – all geared toward student learning and growth – included meetings and workshops that enabled K-6 teachers to collaborate across grade levels on lessons that focused on writing. Social studies teachers, meanwhile, worked with K-12 Humanities Coordinator John Gizzi and colleague Katherine DeForge on the state’s new social studies framework. And science teachers dug into the state’s new science learning standards in a session facilitated by fellow faculty member Heidi Busa.
For others, there were special learning opportunities off-campus:
School counselors attended the CNY School Counselor Symposium, which was organized by a coalition of school counselor leadership groups, Onondaga Community College and OCM BOCES. The daylong event, which took place at OCC, focused on the state’s new counseling regulations.
The staff development day kicked off with a musical performance featuring Mr. Gizzi on the piano, Marcellus High School student Neil Minet on guitar and vocals and LaFayette High School student Dustin Stout on guitar. (See video below.)
