Marcellus HS students compete in Spanish lip-sync battle
April 3, 2017 -- The Marcellus High School Spanish National Honor Society chapter this year organized the school’s second annual lip-sync competition on March 10. The contest was open to all students currently taking Spanish classes. About 30 students tossed their proverbial sombreros into the ring by choosing songs by Hispanic artists to interpret and then creating their own singing groups to perform them.
The groups competing were: Los Locos, Las Estrellas de Shakira, Las Tres Amigas, Juanes’ Honeys and Dream Equipo.
The groups spent time choreographing and perfecting their performance and introduction. First place went to Juanes’ Honeys for with their rendition of Juanes’ “Juntos.” The group received a cash prize of $100. Second place was awarded to Los Locos, who lip-synced to Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and earned $75.
Language teacher and faculty adviser Shelly Marsh said students and teachers alike are hoping the event will grow into an annual tradition and the whole community will become involved.
