Marcellus students sample culture, cuisine and natural beauty of Costa Rica

photo of Marcellus HS students in Costa RicaApril 27, 2017 -- Marcellus High School students of Spanish traveled to Costa Rica over the spring recess with three staff chaperones: teachers Shelly Marsh and Terry Hoey, and Director of Staff Development and Training Deborah Glisson.

After landing in San José, the students visited a coffee plantation and tasted the local flavors. The group then traveled to La Fortuna where they learned to make their own cheese empanadas.  Students hiked the Arenal volcano, went kayaking in Lake Arenal and relaxed at the La Fortuna waterfall and a hot springs resort.

While in Monteverde, the group went horseback-riding through the hills, zip-lined over the canopy of the cloud forest and did a night walk where they spotted sloths, snakes and various insects.

Their next stop was the gorgeous Pacific Coast, where they visited Manuel Antonio Natural Park, walked the trails of the beach and stayed at a tropical hotel. En route back to San José, students visited an Oxcart factory in the town of Sarchi.

On the last night, students thoroughly enjoyed an evening of native folklore dancing, music and food.
