Marcellus High School presents “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer”
Oct. 30, 2017 -- In this year’s fall drama production, “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer,” Marcellus High School students will transport audiences back to the 1940s. Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 3) and 1:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 4).
Adapted for the stage by F. Andrew Leslie from the 1947 Oscar-winning film starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Shirley Temple, “The Bachelor” tells the story of artist-playboy Dickie Nugent (Jack McAuliff), who faces beautiful judge Margaret Turner (Trisha Curtin) on a charge of fighting at a nightclub. After Dickie charms the judge into dismissing the charge, he happens to deliver lecture at a high school attended by Margaret's 17-year-old sister, Susan (Sarah Schwable). First, things get tricky when Susan falls head-over-heels for Dickie. Then they get complicated when Susan sneaks away and is found in Dickie's apartment. And finally the action in this classic screwball comedy gets downright zany when Dickie is court-ordered to date the teen as a way of easing her attraction.
