What happens when inclement weather delays or closes school?
Nov. 2, 2017 -- It won't be long before snow creeps into the local forecast. So now is as good a time as any to remind students and their families about how the Marcellus Central School District handles weather delays and closures.
When school is closed or delayed because of weather or other emergencies, early morning announcements will be made over local radio and TV stations and news websites. Some news outlets, including NewsChannel 9 andCNY Central (Channels 3 and 5), offer free mobile apps that will send text and email alerts about school closings to smart devices.
In addition, recorded voice notifications will be sent to each household via telephone using SchoolMessenger. The primary contact phone number listed first in SchoolTool will be the one used for this contact.
Schools closings, delayed openings and early dismissals also will be:
sent via email to those individuals who have signed up for "District News" alerts from School News Notifier (SNN). (Please note: Due to the volume of closing notifications sent via the SNN service and precautions put in place by recipients' email servers, these SNN notifications may not be received immediately. We encourage you to check the district website and/or consult local media outlets—in addition to awaiting e-mail notification—to ensure that you and your child(ren) receive the information as soon as possible.)
