Senior’s silent film wins contest, to be screened with live performance by Symphoria
April 19, 2018 -- Marcellus High School senior Violet Moncavage has been announced the winner of the Symphoria Film Contest. Her silent film, "Make Your Change," was chosen from over 250 entries from 30 countries around the world and will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Friday (April 20) at the Palace Theatre in Syracuse, with Symphoria providing live musical accompaniment.
The contest focused on themes of freedom, liberty and, in particular, women as change makers. Violet’s film will be shown with live soundtrack, consisting of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon's “Sky Rising,” from her Sky Quartet, performed by the Symphoria String Quartet.
Symphoria is a musician-led cooperative orchestra, one of only two in the United States. The orchestra presents more than 50 concerts and reaches 100,000 people annually in venues ranging from libraries and health care facilities to public parks, churches, museums and its home venue, the Crouse-Hinds Theater at the Civic Center in Syracuse.
