Marcellus senior will represent U.S. at international chemistry competition
June 27, 2018 -- Marcellus High School's own Jeffrey Shi, an incoming senior, is one of four students chosen to represent the United States at the International Chemistry Olympiad next month in Slovakia, the American Chemical Society reports. (Click here to read the story.)
The U.S. team was finalized after an intensive two-week Chemistry Olympiad Study Camp, sponsored by the American Chemical Society and held at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
No stranger to science, math and even geography competitions, Jeff was chosen as a first alternate for last year's U.S. team, which competed in the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Thailand. Earlier this year, he won a silver medal in the 2018 U.S. Physics Olympiad semi-finals.
"Jeff Shi continues to impress and astound me with his scientific feats," Marcellus High School Principal John Durkee said. "He represents himself, his family, his school and his community with such dignity. He is a humble gentleman, scholar, musician. I know I speak for the entire school community when I say, 'Congratulations! And watch out, world; here comes Jeff Shi!'"
