Budget Information

Early Voting and Absentee Ballot Information

Members of the Marcellus community are able to take advantage of early voting for their school budget vote, propositions and election of members of the Board of Education.  If you are interested in voting early, the New York State Board of Elections requires that individuals complete an application requesting an early voting ballot.  Residents can retrieve an early voting application by clicking here, by sending an email to Colleen O'Leary, District Clerk, or by stopping at the District Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

As always, residents can also request an absentee ballot by clicking here, by sending an email to Colleen O'Leary, District Clerk, or by stopping at the District Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Please note that applications for an early voting or absentee ballot must be returned to the District Clerk by May 12th if the absentee or early voting ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or by May 19th if the ballot will be picked up by the voter.  Ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 20th.

January 27th Initial Budget Information

The first draft of the 2025-2026 budget was presented at the January 27th Board of Education meeting.  Anthony Sonnacchio (School Business Administrator) provided an overview of the legal timelines and steps the Board will take to reach a balanced budget in April.  The Board was also presented with a walkthrough of materials prepared for their use in maintaining an awareness of the details of the school budget.  Initial revenue estimates, based on the draft tax levy limit calculation and Governor Hochul’s executive budget, and initial expenditure estimates, determined by rolling forward and assigning costs to existing programs, resulted in an initial budget gap of $625,704.  Mr. Sonnacchio concluded by sharing an overview of budgetary challenges specific to Marcellus, and how the Board and administration can overcome those challenges.


February 10th Budget Update

Mrs. Sharlow provided an update on the status of the 2025-2026 budget.  Several “standard” budgetary adjustments were applied to expenditure estimates along with other proposed amendments that increased the budget gap from $625,704 to $755,484:

The Board and administration will continue to identify efficiencies and achieve a balanced budget by April.


March 24th Budget Update

Mr. Sonnacchio provided an update on the status of the 2025-2026 budget since theFebruary 10th meeting.  Further amendments (shown below) reduced the budget gap from $755,484 to $396,849.  Superintendent Sharlow and district administrators will continue to evaluate next year’s schedule to present a balanced budget at the April 7th Board meeting.


ARP-ESSER Funding Plan

The 2021-22 enacted state budget includes language requiring local education agencies, such as school districts, that receive funding from the Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund allocated by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to post on its website a plan summarizing how these funds will be spent.  The District has posted its plan here and sought comments/input from community members using a google form developed for this purpose.  Comments were to have been submitted by July 1, 2021.  No comments were received.


School Tax Rates & Bills

Property tax rates are set by the Board of Education in August based on the total tax levy. Tax rates can only be determined after final equalization rates are provided by the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services and final assessments are provided by town assessors.

School tax rates for the 2023-2024 school year are as follows:
