March 16, 2020 -- Onondaga County learned of its first reported case of COVID-19 at 8:50 a.m. Monday, County Executive Ryan McMahon announced in a news conference, when he ordered all public schools to close as of 4 p.m. Monday.
After Superintendent Michelle Brantner learned of the local COVID-19 case at 9:05 a.m., she ordered school buses that were already en route to campus with students in grades K-6 to turn around and take students home. Students in grades 7-12 were already in class at that point, so it was determined to keep them in school until regular dismissal at 2:20 p.m.
